If you only have one day to visit Haderslev, there’s no time to waste! To get the most of your visit, follow this guide.
If you have 5 days to explore Haderslev, there are many good experiences waiting. Get the most out of your vacation with this guide.
Morning in Haderslev (10.00 - 12.00 a.m.)
Start your day in the pedestrianised centre of Haderslev. Enjoy a delicious brunch in one of the cosy cafés. When the sun comes out, head to the harbour town of Aarøsund. If you're feeling active and have your hiking boots with you, you can tackle the Camino Haderslev Næs hiking trail just before Gammelbro Camping. The 106-kilometre trail winds its way through the South Jutland countryside. If you are looking for other great experiences, you might like to visit the art gallery in Aarøsund, the Lindegaarden farm shop or play a game of adventure golf at Gammelbro Camping.
Afternoon in Haderslev (12.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)
From Aarøsund you can take the 7-minute ferry to Aarø. We do not recommend travelling to the island by car, as it is easy to get around without one. Start your afternoon by choosing your mode of transport - do you want to explore the island on foot, by bike or with a golf cart? Next, find a good place for lunch. A light lunch can be beneficial, as the island is known for tempting you with plenty of treats along the way. After lunch, it's time to join a guided tour of Aarø's pearl. We recommend booking the tour before you arrive on the island, as there are several different tours to choose from.
While you are travelling on Aarø, you can enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace of Aarø Vingård. Here you can buy wine, liqueurs and sparkling wines to take home with you. Opposite the vineyard there is a nature playground for the little ones and a park golf course where you can try your hand at golf. Visit Aarø Bryghus, sit in the courtyard and try Æ'Mæsk, Gåsefod or one of the other delicious beers. Aarø also offers local honey, Galloway products, smoked salmon, seaweed salt, wine gums, schnapps, jam, sausages and much more. Don't forget to make a detour to the Aarø Wildlife Reserve (which can be visited outside the breeding season), Aarø Camping and the Christmas Church.
Evening in Haderslev (6.00 - 10.00 p.m.)
After your visit to Aarø, it's time for dinner. Maybe you're not that hungry? Take the car out over Næsset and down to Hejsager beach. The beach is one of the best bathing beaches in Haderslev, and it's very busy in the summer. You can satisfy your hunger at Hejsager Strandgrill and, if there's still room, perhaps have an ice cream.
Morning in Haderslev town centre (10.00 - 12.00 a.m.)
Start the day with a cup of coffee and a delicious brunch in one of our many cafés.
Visit the city's most visited attraction, Haderslev Cathedral, and treat yourself to a tour of Haderslev's beautiful old town centre. Make the most of the tour with your own guide (book a guide by calling +45 73 70 92 21). If you have time, you can visit 2 of the city's museums (Ehlers Samlingen and Von Oberbergs Hus) in the Old Town. If you drop by Gravene on Tuesdays or Fridays, you can experience the cosy Torvedag (weekly market).
You can also take a walk around the Inderdamm. Perhaps the Dorothea steamboat will depart and you can enjoy the beautiful nature from the water.
Afternoon in the town of Haderslev (12.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)
After visiting Haderslev's old town centre, you can have lunch in Torvet or Gravene. If the weather permits, there are good opportunities to sit outside.
Now stroll through the cosy Jomfrusti and down past the historic Ridehus (known from the DR) before heading out to the north side of the harbour. Here you can take a lovely walk along the fjord, past the large international painting by Victor Ash, the StreetDome - one of Denmark's largest skate parks - and many other architecturally beautiful buildings. Keep walking and enjoy the beautiful view of Haderslev Fjord. If you need a break, you can stop off at Kulkajen Strandbar and quench your thirst at Saltlageret - Street Food & Events (please note opening hours!).
Evening in Haderslev (6.00 - 10.00 p.m.)
Stay in Haderslev and have dinner in one of the town's restaurants. After dinner, we recommend taking a short walk in Haderslev's green oasis Dampark.
Morning (10.00 - 12.00 a.m.)
Take a trip by car to Gram Slotsby and visit the castle for which the town is famous. Keep an eye on the castle's website to see when there is a guided tour of the castle, but also when the very popular Sønderjysk Kaffebord takes place. Gram Castle is Denmark's largest organic farm, and you can also see that when you visit the fine farm shop. Round off the morning with lunch in the café and savour the local produce.
Afternoon (12.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)
Visit the Natural History Museum in Gram after lunch, where some of Denmark's largest whale skeletons await you. If you have wellies and a taste for mud, you can go fossil hunting with the children in the clay pit. If it rains, you can play a game of table football or billiards in the Gram Fritidscenter. Now it's also time for a cup of coffee. Go to Stensbæk Skov Café and enjoy a cup of coffee and homemade cake. If you still have energy, you can take a walk in Stensbæk Plantage before dinner. Or you can visit Hygge Lake, which offers pure relaxation in natural surroundings. Here you can go fishing, stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking.
Evening in Haderslev (6.00 - 10.00 p.m.)
End the day in Gram with dinner at Gram Slotskro. The evening menu combines classic Danish cuisine with modern trends and offers something for all ages. Before you get back in the car, treat yourself to a walk through the cosy castle park or a stroll through the town. Along the way, you will find signs where you can read about the history of the city.
Morning in Haderslev town centre (10.00 - 12.00 a.m.)
Are you bringing your bike on holiday? We recommend that you book a picnic basket for the cycle tour the day before at Danhostel or Hotel Norden. Set course for Tørning Mill, where there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy your lunch. On the way there, you will pass Haderslev Wildlife Park and Pamhule Forest. If you need a drink break, a stop at Sofies Kilde is a good idea. The spring has such clean water that you can easily drink from it. Keep an eye out for Haderslev Dam on your tour, where you might see the steamboat Dorothea. You will also pass the industrial adventure of Christiansdal hydroelectric power station. If you want to learn more about the place, you can book a guided tour at Tørning Mill.
Afternoon (12.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)
Enjoy your lunch in the beautiful surroundings of Tørning Mill. If the weather is fine, the benches by the lake are a lovely place to eat with the family. Take a look at the large watermill and listen to the story of Tørning Castle before heading back to Haderslev. If you cycle south of Haderslev Dam again, you can cycle down to 3D archery in Pamhule and give the bikes a rest. If you have booked a trip to the 3D course before your bike tour, you are guaranteed 2 hours of fun - it's all about hitting the bull's eye. If you cycle back along the north side of Haderslev Dam, you can stop for a coffee at Restaurant Damende (check opening times). It is located right on the banks of Haderslev Dam in beautiful surroundings, and if your legs get tired, you can take the dam boat back to the centre.
Evening in Haderslev (6.00 - 10.00 p.m.)
Visit one of the many delicious restaurants in the neighbourhood and give your legs a well-deserved rest. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings (weeks 26-36), you can also wander the cobbled streets with the watchmen and hear the story of the night watchmen who used to keep watch, peace and order.
Morning (10.00 - 12.00 a.m.)
Your last day starts in Vojens at the local bakery. Enjoy a delicious brunch in the cosy café before heading to the large disc golf course. Challenge the whole family and see who can throw a frisbee the best. You can find more active experiences by clicking here. And if the weather puts a spanner in the works, a visit to Vojens Hallerne and its water park can save the day.
Afternoon (12.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.)
Back in Haderslev, it's time to browse the shops. Perhaps you've already discovered a few shops that you'd like to take a closer look at? If you parked at Wittenbergplads, you can always come back to the car with bags. Don't forget your parking disc, as you can park here for 2 hours. Look out for the many speciality shops and second-hand shops, where you can also buy lots of good things. If you have children with you, we recommend Café Kreahjørnet, where young and old can paint on ceramics. There are also many exciting museums in Haderslev that are definitely worth a visit.
Evening (6.00 - 10.00 p.m.)
The last evening in Haderslev calls for good food. Pop into one of the cosy pubs and have a port, a G&T or a cold draught beer in one of the local bars. Maybe you'll be lucky and there will be live music that evening.
