The east coast of our region is a veritable gem for SUP enthusiasts. Here you’ll find crystal clear waters and a coastline blessed with beautiful bays that provide shelter from the wind and the waves, and thus perfect conditions for paddleboarding. The geography of the east coast means that the predominantly shallow waters deepen at a very gradual rate, thus making it ideal for both novices and experienced paddleboarders.

When standing on a paddleboard, it’s vital that you’re aware of a number of safety precautions. The following 5 basic principles will help ensure that you enjoy a safe trip on the water:

1. AWAYS use a safety line (rope that ties you to the board).
2. Remember to wear a life jacket (paddleboarding without a life jacket is illegal).
3. Keep your mobile phone in a water-proof bag.
4. Never venture out onto the water on your own. Always tell someone where you’re heading and when you expect to be back.
5. ALWAYS check the wind and weather conditions before heading out. If you’re a novice or have only very limited experience, then don’t sail if there’s an offshore breeze.
