The geography of the east coast means that the predominantly shallow waters deepen at a very gradual rate, thus making it ideal for both novices and experienced paddleboarders.

Regardless of where you are on the east coast of Sønderjylland, it’s easy to get out onto the water with your board and enjoy the attractive surroundings.

Safety
When standing on a paddleboard, it’s vital that you’re aware of a number of safety precautions. The following 5 basic principles will help ensure that you enjoy a safe trip on the water:
- AWAYS use a safety line (rope that ties you to the board).
- Remember to wear a life jacket (paddleboarding without a life jacket is illegal).
- Keep your mobile phone in a water-proof bag.
- Never venture out onto the water on your own. Always tell someone where you’re heading and when you expect to be back.
- ALWAYS check the wind and weather conditions before heading out. If you’re a novice or have only very limited experience, then don’t sail if there’s an offshore breeze.

Our standup paddleboarding (SUP) guide has been developed in close consultation with Surf & SUP Danmark, the national governing body for surfing and SUP. They will be hosting the SUP World Championships in Copenhagen from 16-22 September 2024, where everyone is invited to take part in the event. The hosts will be organizing the huge Copenhagen Paddle Festival, featuring lots of activities, including the popular Copenhagen SUP mass-participation event, which enables you to paddle round in Copenhagen’s harbour and experience the hustle and bustle of the city from the water.
