Holidays with content

As a guest in Sønderborg Municipality, you can plan a very versatile holiday.

You'll be surrounded by history everywhere you go, from pre-historic relics and ship finds to war history and reunification. Dybbøl Mill stands on the scenic Dybbøl Banke, the battlefield of the 1864 war, which you can learn more about at Historiecentre Dybbøl Banke. The many museums and collections provide a broad insight and Sønderjyllands Museum at Sønderborg Castle, by the cosy harbour, provides a comprehensive overview of Sønderjyllands cultural history.

Nature is varied and free to explore. The beautiful forests on Als and near Gråsten invite you for a nice stroll or a picnic. Along the coasts of Flensburg Fjord, the Baltic Sea and the island of Als you'll find lovely salt marshes and on the mainland there is a beautiful heathland.

Here you can be active together or alone. Go on a cycling holiday or a riding holiday along the Als Bridle Route. There are hiking trails of various lengths and the Alsstien and Gendarmstien routes are ideal for a multi-day hiking holiday. Take a dip at one of the many Blue Flag beaches or find a quiet stretch for some relaxing fishing.

The beech buds have burst open – the beech leaves are beginning to brighten up the forest with the most beautiful light green colour, inviting you to enjoy a lovely bike ride.

As you travel through the countryside, you can also enjoy the sight of the yellow rapeseed in full bloom across the undulating fields.

If you spot a bird high up in the sky singing over the cornfield, it is the lark marking its territory.
