Holidays with content
As a guest in Sønderborg Municipality, you can plan a very versatile holiday.
You'll be surrounded by history everywhere you go, from pre-historic relics and ship finds to war history and reunification. Dybbøl Mill stands on the scenic Dybbøl Banke, the battlefield of the 1864 war, which you can learn more about at Historiecentre Dybbøl Banke. The many museums and collections provide a broad insight and Sønderjyllands Museum at Sønderborg Castle, by the cosy harbour, provides a comprehensive overview of Sønderjyllands cultural history.
Nature is varied and free to explore. The beautiful forests on Als and near Gråsten invite you for a nice stroll or a picnic. Along the coasts of Flensburg Fjord, the Baltic Sea and the island of Als you'll find lovely salt marshes and on the mainland there is a beautiful heathland.
Here you can be active together or alone. Go on a cycling holiday or a riding holiday along the Als Bridle Route. There are hiking trails of various lengths and the Alsstien and Gendarmstien routes are ideal for a multi-day hiking holiday. Take a dip at one of the many Blue Flag beaches or find a quiet stretch for some relaxing fishing.
Nature at the moment

The beech leaves are beginning to brighten up the forest with the most beautiful shades of light green, and the forest floor is dotted with the most beautiful anemones.
But in some forests, you’ll also find another plant that’s just about to flower – though it’s not the flowers we’re after, but the leaves.
