A day at the beach

In addition to a mild and friendly climate without strong undercurrent, you will find many good beaches with high water quality in the Sønderborg area. Throughout the summer time, water samples is collected and assesses continuously at 25 beaches in Sønderborg Municipality and you will find the Blue Flag at no less than nine beaches.

The Blue Flag is more than a sign for clean waters. During summer, they have a programme full of funny and interesting nature experiences for the entire family. The programme, in Danish, will be accessible on the website Naturvejlederne.dk from mid-June.

Tips and Safety

There is a proverb: Only a fool fears not the sea. Fear may not be necessary, but a healthy respect is never out of place, and, of course, there is encouragement to keep an eye on the children at the beach, as well as to leave inflatable toys at home when the wind is offshore.

The much-loved SUP boards can also lead bathers astray, and it might be a good idea to take a moment to study the safety brochure with good advice before venturing into 'the wild waves.'

We don't have dangerous animals in our waters, but an encounter with a jellyfish can be extremely unpleasant, and here you will also find some good advice.

Winter bathing

Sønderborg Municipality was included on Friluftsrådet's map with a total of three winter bathing sites for the 2025-26 season.
