Winter bathing - Ballebro

Winter bathing spot at Als Sund, near Ballebro Færgekro as well as the ferry, Nordalsfærgen Bitten and with a view of the island of Als.

From 1 September 2025 to 31 May 2026 inclusive.

he jetty at the beach, Ballebro Badestrand is just one of a total of three new winter bathing spots in Sønderborg Municipality that have been awarded the Danish Outdoor Council, Friluftsrådets classification for the 2025/26 bathing season.

The winter bathing spot scheme started as a pilot project in 2021, with Langeland accounting for the country's first three locations. Since then, it has caught on, so that by 2025 there will be 22 locations in Denmark that can fly the official winter bathing flag.

As a user of a classified winter bathing spot, you are guaranteed certain conditions, such as clean bathing water, safety in the form of lifesaving equipment and good access to the water.

FOLLOW THE 8 WINTER BATHING TIPS

Before you go into the water:
1. Check the bathing conditions and familiarise yourself with the safety equipment
2. Watch out for ice on stairs and jetties
3. Lower your body gently into the water
4. Never bathe alone

When you are in the water:
1. Breathe calmly
2. Keep an eye on each other
3. Stay close to the stairs or jetty
4. Never swim under the ice.
