The station in Sønderborg is a so-called end station and today consists of two tracks, with a waiting platform under the roof. There are daily departures with connections to, among other places, Copenhagen.

Sønderborg Station is located on the mainland side by Alsion, which houses the University of Southern Denmark, Alsion Knowledge Park, Erhvervs Akademi Sydvest, the Alsion Concert Hall and the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra.
From the station you can take city bus line 1 up from Dybbølgade to the bus station, which is located in Sønderborg city center on the island of Als. Timetables for the bus is found at www.sydtrafik.dk
On foot there are approx. 1 km to Sønderborg C.
