Sansernes Port
Made in 1978-79 by artist Jørgen Haugen Sørensen (1934-2021), who chose to call it Sønderborgkarret.
Sansernes Port (The Gate of Senses) is made of grey-black Swedish and red South African granite.
The figure consists of 10 parts, some of which are roughly carved and undecorated, while others are ornamented, plastered and polished. Part of the red columns, which can be seen inside the sculpture's framework, are sprinkled with a thin jet of water. The shape is coloured a darker red, becomes glossier and takes on a deep alien “timbre”.
Jørgen Haugen Sørensen's water art trickles only very quietly, yet you will realise that this small “edifice” has been created with the finest sense of grandeur and coherence.
With “Sansernes Port”, Haugen Sørensen has created a sculpture that sends out a stream of power on all sides and is experienced as a portal to the world of the senses.
