Kalvø Open Shipyard Day

Come and experience authentic shipyard atmosphere when Kalvø Open Shipyard Day takes place on Kalvø on 17. August 2025.

In the middle of Genner Bugt lies the small island of Kalvø, home to the remains of an old shipyard. You can see the remnants as part of the exhibition at Det Maritime Kalvø – a small museum with free admission during the summer months.

Each year in August, Kalvø Open Shipyard Day is also held – an event for the whole family. Here you can experience traditional Danish craftsmanship, like blacksmithing and rope making. Try a horse-drawn carriage ride, taste crispy waffles, build your own hobbyhorse, launch little boats, and most importantly, hear the cannon salute. The museum is, of course, also open to visitors.

All activities are free and usually begin at 9:00 AM with a Danish/German church service, followed by the DM i vrik and much more. The day ends at 4:00 PM.

Food will be available for purchase at Kalvø Badehotel Restaurant.

The event is free to attend and no registration is required – just show up. There is free parking and toilet facilities on Kalvø.
