Nature experiences in Sønderjylland

Just before settling down for the night, large flocks of starlings create fascinating patterns in the sky that almost eclipse the sun; hence the Danish name, Sort Sol (Black Sun).

Another natural attraction in the Wadden Sea is the many oysters that you can find when walking out on the dry seabed at low tide.

Åbjerg Forest connects the Danish–German border at Kruså with the Skomagerhus crossing, an older pedestrian border bridge, and continues through Kollund Forest towards the town of Kollund.

The 64-km hiking route follows the coastline through some of Als’ most beautiful scenery. Starting at the causeway to Kegnæs, it runs through rolling cornfields and bright yellow rape on one side of the path and the blue waters of the Little Belt on the other.

One of the largest deer parks in Denmark, where you can go for long walks and enjoy the view of Haderslev Lake.

Aarø lies in the Little Belt near the mouth of Haderslev Fjord and makes a lovely destination for a daytrip.

The 1928 hectare Naturpark Nordals offers a varied nature, with peaceful forests, salt meadows and restored lakes.

The Gendarme Path runs from the Danish-German border near Padborg through Kollund, Gråsten, across Broagerland and Vemmingbund, past Dybbøl and further on to Sønderborg, Høruphav and Skovby on Als. Most of the way you walk along the coast through a changing landscape.

The Kalvø Path offers a scenic walk, through beech forests, over fields, and with views of Genner Bay.
