You cross the bridge, leaving the bustle of everyday life behind. The restaurant stands beautifully set against the forest’s foliage. One of the first things to catch your eye is the floral decoration, which changes with each season. When the weather allows, you can dine outside on the terrace or in the courtyard, in the shade of an old willow tree beside a pond where black swans reside.

Inside, the place is filled with history and authenticity, featuring wooden floors, antique furniture, and fresh flowers. Like the décor, the menu changes with the seasons. The cuisine is gourmet of the highest quality, inspired by French-Danish traditions, as well as local specialties such as herring, “skrædderduelse,” and “solæg.”

The restaurant is run by father and daughter, Per and Sabrine Dupont, and has been in the family since 1987. It is owned by Jebsen, the man behind the Jebsen shipping company.

“Æ Knapp,” as it is known locally, is famous for its atmosphere and outstanding hospitality. The restaurant also offers function rooms, making it a popular choice for celebrating life’s special occasions on the edge of the forest. A few charming rooms are available, decorated in a classic style. Guests can enjoy overnight stays with breakfast or choose from various packages that include dinner and optional wine pairings.
