Augustenborg Tilting-at-the-ring
The ducal town, Augustenborg, is the birthplace of ringriding (tilting-at-the-ring) as we know it today.
Ringriding (tilting-at-the-ring) is known from the early 1800s as entertainment at village festivals, but when Duke Christian of Augustenborg celebrates his silver wedding anniversary with his consort, Duchess Louise, in 1845, he invites locals from all over the island of Als to participate and for the first time an event with 450 riders takes place.
Today, an annual tilting-at-the-ring event is still held in the ducal town, with parades and entertainment.
