Solar energy for consumers

Solar energy for consumers as fuel and a heat source through PtX production.

European Energy is behind a 340-hectare solar park and a PtX plant in Kassø. Here, green electricity is produced from the solar park, which will be used for e-methanol production in the PtX facility. The electricity is used in an electrolysis process where water molecules are split into oxygen and hydrogen. The produced hydrogen is then combined with CO2 to create e-methanol, which can be used for transport, heating, or industrial processes. The e-methanol can be stored and distributed to consumers, ensuring efficient and flexible use of solar energy, even when the sun is not shining.

An important side benefit of operating the PtX plant in Kassø is the amount of surplus heat generated during the production of e-methanol. This surplus heat is delivered to Aabenraa District Heating, where it is integrated into the district heating network and used to heat residential and commercial buildings in the municipality. This contributes to a more sustainable heat supply by optimizing the use of waste heat instead of letting it go to waste.

Learn more about how PtX production of e-methanol and the surplus heat it generates reach the consumer and contribute to promoting the green transition through efficient resource utilization, benefiting both the environment and the local community.
