Alsik Hotel & Spa
If you love tall, shiny buildings, then make sure you pay Sønderborg a visit. In recent years a new neighbourhood has been developed at the waterfront, with a big new hotel with 19 floors dominating the skyline.
The hotel is called Alsik, and opened in 2019. It has 190 rooms and suites, which are all furnished in Nordic style. 90 percent of the rooms have sea views.
The hotel complex consists of two towers of 19 and 70 metres respectively. So the view will be fantastic – and even if you aren’t staying or eating at the hotel, you can still enjoy it. There is a public viewing platform on the 16th floor in the large tower, from which visitors can look out over the surrounding landscape from a height of almost 64 metres.
Alsik was designed by the world-famous Henning Larsen Architects, and is a combined hotel, conference, resort and spa complex. The hotel is run by the German company RIMC, which primarily focuses on business guests during the week and tourists at the weekend – in addition to conferences and events. Alsik is the biggest health resort and conference hotel of Sønderjylland, whilst the spa- and wellness area, which takes up four floors, will be the largest in Denmark. The spa has its own entrance and can also be used by people not staying at the hotel.
If you like delicious food, Alsik also offers an exciting experience. The hotel has three restaurants and a spa café, with each restaurant having its particular culinary profile based on the Nordic and local kitchen. On the 17th floor is Restaurant 17th, which is Alsik’s gastronomic flagship and boasts a spectacular view. Restaurant Freia is on the ground floor and is Alsik’s regional kitchen with new interpretations of classic dishes from Sønderjylland. Alsik Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for hotel and conference guests, and finally the Spa Café has light and healthy refreshments aimed at guests visiting the health resort.
